IN-CLASS SESSIONS (ICS)

ICS workshops introduce students to the importance of design in the real world, covering topics such as graphic, product, stage, architectural, fashion, packaging, and environmental design.

Workshops are offered on an individual basis where each session will focus on one area of design.  Students will learn about that particular craft and will have an opportunity to construct and ideally complete a piece of their own, or a group piece, by the end of the session.

Workshops have included:

MASK MAKING:  Create a mask and learn about the history and use of masks in culture, theatre, and the arts.

PRINT MAKING: A look at print making around the world, from block printing and stencils, to graffiti and silkscreen.  Opportunity is given for the students to work on and ideally complete a piece of printed work.

CREATIVITY WITH FOUND OBJECTS: encourages the reuse of materials that can have more then one function. Students are introduced to real-world artist works created in this style and work together to create a piece of their own from objects that they bring in to the session.

REAL WORLD DESIGN: How does design work in the real world?  What is form versus function? Students learn about logos and branding, industrial, packaging, architectural, and furniture design.  This discussion based session is meant to be an advanced class that helps students interested in the design world have a better understanding of how it works and where they fit into it.

For hands-on classes, materials can be gathered in advance by the school.  Workshops are built to encourage low-cost design construction and can usually be created using onsite school supplies,  such as;  glue, construction paper, hot glue guns, and box cardboard.   Additional materials not found on-site may require students to bring in found objects such as torn fabric from home, objects from nature, or recyclable materials.

COSTS (based on a maximum of 30 students / class)

1 to 1.5 hours (or single class time) $150

Additional sessions $115 each
